Get there fast? Or take it slow? Epicurean entertainment.

Hi all, hope everyone had a good week! This is more or less a continuation of last week's post, but first I have a 'God's timing' story to share.
Last shift I was leaving Riverton, when I realized I had forgotten a prescription at the station. (Doctor put me on antibiotics). Well naturally I was kind of frustrated coming off of a three day shift, so I returned to the station, got my prescription, was just about to leave town again when a call came in saying that seven people were trapped in a house fire. This being a potential multiple-casualty incident, I responded to the scene in my personal vehicle. Thankfully, we ended up having only one patient who had inhaled some smoke. (Everyone got out of the house and the guy who inhaled smoke only did because he was busy putting out the fire with a garden hose). Anyway, it was just pretty funny timing on God's part. Gotta love it!

I was watching a video last week on the dangers of binge-watching shows on Netflix. The guy I was watching wasn't talking about the negative effects of it on our health (like turning our brains into Swiss cheese). Rather, he was suggesting that watching a show by speeding through is not the best way to appreciate it.
His thought about watching and savoring a show by slowing down made me think of the Epicureans, who basically invented the saying: "All things in moderation." If you aren't familiar with their philosophy, what they say boils down to: "There may not be a god, but we can and should enjoy earthly delights. Therefore, to enjoy them to the fullest we will moderate our use of them so as not to become saturated with pleasure."

Something like that (There are different degrees of it just like anything else).
I guess in the end I'm suggesting that we become a little more epicurean when we consume media, because it helps us appreciate the good stuff by allowing our minds to soak in it. I know that I tend to appreciate shows that I spend more time on than the ones I binge. Character arcs and important plot elements are not lost on us if we take the time to appreciate them. It's like the Dream Theater song, 'Take the Time'.
Well regardless, I'm already late in posting this week! Sorry about that, but we suddenly started running a bunch of calls, and I couldn't focus for more than a few minutes at a time on this. Ah well, I did just say that I should take more time in using media didn't I? I hope everyone has a good week! See y'all next messy Monday. Stay happily virtuous!
A joke of my own invention: I've always thought the word engagement has a nice ring to it. Incidentally if I ever move to Sweden the flag will be a big plus for me.
Meme time! Again, as an EMT this one hits home:

No no no no... This is simply... a metaphor!

Thanks for reading to the end! Your time commitment to this maybe slightly quality media outlet is admirable!
